I am waiting on my recumbent bike to arrive. I used it at the gym but no gym for me now. The best thing I found for cardio and my knees. My doctor suggested it and so far it has saved me from surgery.

With your bad knees, maybe an exercise bike (maybe a recumbent) or a rowing machine would be more appropriate. The more horizontal position might help with the P.A.D. Both of those options would be less expensive than an indoor jet pool (where pumps produce current for you to swim against).

We go cross country skiing when the snow conditions allow.

Hang in there, spring is less than 180 days away.

I concur with bbuckwwheat that spin-biking and indoor rowing are excellent alternatives and will improve cardiovascular performance with lesser knee stress than a treadmill will exert.

That said, indoor rowing risks other potential issues (especially with the lower back) associated with form (or lack thereof) and using too much resistance. These are avoidable if you watch some training videos or get some personal training. (Personally, I row 20K-30K meters per week)

I am inclined to recommend a combination of treadmill walking and spin-biking. First, there are several highly-rated spin-bikes available from Amazon Prime that are half the price of a good indoor rower. Second, you can connect with various streaming *classes* (such as Peloton) that will make spin work-outs more structured (including high-intensity options, which are beneficial to PAD). Thirdly, by combining walking and cycling, you stress the calves (walking) and the quads (cycling) separately, thus increasing exercise tolerance for both sets of muscles.

Regardless, as you know, consistency is the key to managing PAD. Try and do *something* every day!

I try and cycle during the summer to help shed the pounds before it all goes back on when I hibernate through winter.

But I'm finding it a bit more difficult to shift these days, I think my metabolism has changed.

I have an indoor cycle trainer but like your treadmill I find using it very boring - sitting spinning away with the same four walls isn't all that exciting. So I tend to go out for a two hour walk instead.

I agree that the treadmill has to be about the most boring form of exercise. I used to do stationary bike when I went to the gym. At least I could read as I pedaled. Also for some reason long quick walks bother my back.

If you see me in the real world, come say "Hi Justskin."

I always behave. Preferably not well.
