On today's episode of 'What?? Really?!?'
On today's episode of 'What?? Really?!?' Secret_lade is at her desk preparing for orientation when she receives a phone call from the Corporate Contact Center. "Hi, this is Bobby Sue. I have a call for you from an Amanda, she wants to talk about her orientation today." "Ok, send her through." Bobby Sue dropped the line and was immediately replaced by the screaming voice of a having a temper tantrum. "Hi, this is [secret_lade]." "Oh, heeeeyyyyy.... This is Amanda. I can't find no one to watch my . Can I just bring him with me to orientation?" Are you fucking kidding me?? I must be on candid camera somewhere..... I peered about my office but did not see any sketchy cameras or strange people milling about in the background. "No, I'm sorry, orientation is considered to be an actual work day. You will be in a class with three other people and it would be unfair to them to have to listen to what I'm listening to right now while they are trying to learn." Silence aside from the sound of her now crying . "Would you like to try to reschedule? I'm on vacation next week but I will be having another orientation the week after?" I was trying to be as nice as possible, after all I'd already waited a month for her to get her birth certificate so she would have two forms of I-9 identification. This woman clearly did not want a job. "Um.... Let me make a few calls to see if I can find a sitter. I really need to start this job right away." And...... That was the last I heard from her. No call no show for orientation, no phone calls back to reschedule, no chance for employment now. Good lord! Happy Thursday!! |

Work ethic is gone, i feel, in a lot of ways. When you can get away with everything because you know your employer is desperate to hang on to employees, a lot of people take advantage of that.

Wow!...just Wow! Millenial? I work with one. She's great when she's there! Key phrase...."when she's there!" Has some of the worst absenteeism, not counting her three week leave this summer to go help at church camp! Why do Millenials seem to have more aches and pains than my 60+ ass?

I'm curious now about how she thought she was going to be able to attend work at all if she couldn't make arrangements for cover to get to the orientation.......

It sounds as if she'd struggle to keep down the job even if she was orientated!

Sounds like this is another instance of dodging a bullet. She most likely would not have been a good employee if she can't even have ID to show and make arrangements for her child while she's going through orientation. That's not exactly a minor detail there and I think Child Welfare frowns on a person hanging their child on a nail on the wall as a means of 'child care'. But in some cases, it may be an improvement over mom and/or dad.
